The American government was established upon a Constitution that was created to restrict political authority through a system of checks and balances so that no branch of the government will have too much power. Over time the Constitution has been proven itself to be a living document which through amendments and reinterpretation has been serving the country well. The needs and requirements of the people are registered through elections, political parties, and a free press. The decision-makers are checked by each other’s power and also, they need to satisfy the electorate to remain in office. The people of the country do not rule the country but elect the people who rule. The government’s decision is based on the majority and is subject to the limitations imposed by the Constitution to protect the minority rights.
